As you grow with the sport, you will become
exposed to tri-language. One I learned long ago but rarely used
in practice was 'brick workout'. Simply, this is when you do one
discipline, followed by another without a break. Your race will
be an example of such a workout. You swim...then bike...then run.
The most interesting (and useful) workout is a bike-run brick. You
use different muscle groups for cycling than running. I cannot adequately
describe the feeling when you hop off the bike and begin running...so
try it for yourself. Three weeks before the September
Hyannis Sprint 2, ride
the 10 miles...put the bike in the garage...then lace up your running
shoes and go out for a 3-mile run. Feel strange? Welcome to triathlon
racing! The more bricks you can do, the less 'strange' you may feel
come race day.
